Harrie Vredenburg

Dr. Harrie Vredenburg

Harrie Vredenburg is a Professor of Strategy and Sustainability at the University of Calgary’s Haskayne School of Business, a Research Fellow at the University’s School of Public Policy, and an International Research Fellow at Oxford University’s Said Business School in the UK. He previously taught at McGill University in Montreal. Dr Vredenburg was the founding Academic Director of both his university’s MSc in Sustainable Energy Development (10 yrs) and Global Energy Executive MBA (8 yrs). A popular teacher, he lectures in MBA, MSc, MPP, PhD, and executive programs and has several times won the MBA Society Top MBA Teacher Award. He has authored/co-authored more than 50 papers in leading international journals and has coauthored government reports on innovation and on nuclear energy. According to Google Scholar, his publications have been cited in the literature more than 8,500 times. Dr Vredenburg was the founding Chairman of energy storage startup TERIC Power for 7 years until it was acquired by Idea Well Capital Partners’ Climate Tech Private Equity Fund in 2022. He has been a board member of publicly-traded and private international energy companies for 15 years. With filmmaker Sylvester Ndumbi he has produced the 2023 documentary ‘Without Leaving Anyone Behind: Exploring Our Way to an Energy Future.’ This will be screened on Wednesday from 17:30 till 19:30 in the Palomino Room, BMO Centre, Auditorium 1. (doors close 5 pm, Film starts at 5:30 pm) Born in the Netherlands, Dr Vredenburg holds both Netherlands (EU) and Canadian nationalities.
